Negative Living
for J.
Throw the baby out
with the bath water
she’ll find her way
back inside. Better
get rid of a few
necessities, than keep
so many useless
plastic toys, broken
sandwich machines,
a single red shoe.
Your diamond ring
may snag on the dusty
rug he bought
when the first
baby was new,
the stone may fall
out in the grass
its meaning devoured
by worms.
My friend introduced me to the term "Negative Living" yesterday morning. It means you throw out or get rid of more things than come in the house. It's all about purging, right?

ReplyDeleteI love this one! Especially the part about the ring. mine was almost devoured by the dryer though, not worms lol -J
Glad you like it! It's actually much longer, I'll post the rest later.
ReplyDeleteBrooke, I love that you are doing this. You are definitely talented, and I've enjoyed reading your poems this week. Keep them coming- I'm inspired!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for reading Julie! It is certainly difficult to come up with a new one every day, but it helps to know people are actually looking at them.
ReplyDeleteBrooke, I like this poem a lot. You have a compelling tone and voice,I am constantly entertained by your writing wit, even in your FB posts.
